Department of Foreign Languages
SUMMER  in  SOUTH AMERICA
In the summer of 2004 the Department of Foreign Languages established a new program in South America under the direction of native Argentinian Prof. Juan del Valle. This year students will spend
one week at a bed-and-breakfast in Vina del Mar, Chile, two weeks in Mendoza, Argentina (in the Andes of Western Argentina) with host familes, and almost two weeks in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, again with host familes. While in Buenos Aires there will be a weekend excursion to Montevideo and the historic city of Colonia, Uruguay.

Students who have completed at least two years of college Spanish are eligible to enroll in this intensive five-week program (mid-May through late June), for which they can receive up to six hours of credit. During the week students attend lectures taught by UE faculty and local instructors, and on the weekends they participate in special events and excursions.
And what do the students have to say about this program?

“The program was clearly designed for us to make the most of our time while we were here, and it was evident that the professor in charge wanted us to get the most out of our experience...”

“The extra-class activities were very good. The guide was excellent... the barbecues on Fridays were awesome...”
"In my host family I was treated like a member of the family; I had my own bedroom; the house was very comfortable; the food was great; my host mother is a very good cook.”

“I´ve had a wonderful time and I´d love to come back... I feel that I have changed very much... Be open and try new things. This is an excellent opportunity and you should take full advantage of it...”

“During the entire stay in Argentina I felt safe and secure...”
“Overall, I really liked the program, and I feel like my Spanish has improved a lot...”

“I did an internship at a marketing company… it was an incredible experience. I learned a lot and I would recommend the company to future participants in the program.”

“The classes were good and helpful. The immersion really helped my comprehension. We experienced a lot of history, places, and culture that was amazing...”
